Mr Lee Wei came from China in 1920. Landing in Singapore, he worked with a soya bean milk distributor. Later on, he migrated to Tanjung Malim to take up the position of a teacher in Chung Sin Chinese Primary School until he retired in 1963. Many of our friends esp. from Tanjung Malim will remember him as a teacher as he is fondly addressed as Lee Lao Tze long after he has retired from teaching. He was always a good and honest worker. He worked hard all his life and not only until he was 53 did he finally find time to marry and have a family.

As we reflect over the years, several vivid images stand out from our minds. We remember him as a man with simple taste enjoying the simplest things in life. He was always thankful for small little things which we as children took for granted. Being content with his lot in life which today is rare was one of his greatest assets. Like many migrants in his time who had to eke out a living in a foreign and sometimes hostile land, life was never easy for him. Yet he was always positive, taking every experience as a lesson in life. This he tried to pass down to us in the many stories and anecdotes he would tell us.

However, I must confess that at that time, our young minds and hearts often could not appreciate the valuable lessons from these stories. He was also a good provider and a responsible father. True to his style of life, we only had the simple things in life but there were always enough to go around. In fact he was such a good provider that we never really gave a serious thought where our next meal would come from because it would always be there. But that was not all he provided us, he gave us love, care and time. He took time to be with us in our growing up years even though there was the obvious generation gap. Can you imagine a man in his sixties playing badminton with his small children? Or giving us fun rides on his bicycle? Taking us to cinema shows? Well, that was exactly what he did those fond memories will always be with us.

About 20 years ago, by the grace of God, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour. His was a simple and real trust in our Lord Jesus Christ; regularly reading the Bible until his vision was too impaired to read anymore. Today we are saddened by our loss but at the same time we take great comfort to know he has gone to a better place. A place where our Saviour, Jesus Christ has promised where there will be no pain, sickness, misery, or tears. And we know that this separation is temporary. For when Christ returns, we will meet again. Until then, father, farewell and thank you from all of us.

The family of the late Mr. Lee Wei would like to express their deepest appreciation and gratitude to
1.                 Ven. Can. Ng Moon Hing & members of the St. Peter Church in Ipoh, and
2.                 relatives, colleagues and friends for their prayers, assistance, condolences, wreaths, and contribution during their recent bereavement.
